RHODEO BEACH VISITORS CENTER
Located near the western beaches of the Marine Headlands, this beachside visitors centre blends abstract geological forms combined with the command of light using perforated walls. Abstract geological formations highlight the region's exciting geology and link natural and artificial structures. In other words, they evoke feelings of natural and organic spaces. The entire design of the visitor's centre is broken into 3 clusters with different purposes and activities. The first cluster, facing directly at the beach, serves as a surf shack where surf enthusiasts and visitors can change and check out equipment for beach-related activities. In addition, the surf shack houses a lounge area where people can rest and socialize. The cluster towards the centre houses the cafe and the kitchen, and the last set towards the end holds the HVAC, classroom, storage, and lab where students can conduct their onsite research. Perforated walls help add a distinctive personality to the building's exterior and interior elements and perform the essential function of adding a dynamic lighting aesthetic to the design.
